Research Facilities

Cardiology Division faculty use research laboratories in numerous locations on and off campus.

Building 530 - Wintrobe Laboratories

The Cardiology Division has four wet labs in the Wintrobe Building. Dr Benjamin's research labs are located on the second floor, with the main lab being approximately 1,000 square feet and a satellite lab across the hall of 295 square feet. In addition, the Division shares a 356 square foot Molecular Pathology lab on the second floor with the Department of Surgery.  The Division also has two wet labs on the sixth floor of the Wintrobe Building in a multidisciplinary immunology research space. These labs occupy approximately 1,100 square feet. All of these labs have access to an additional 1,100 square feet of shared space. Future plans include a remodeling of approximately 6,600 square feet on the 3rd floor of the Wintrobe Building for additional basic research space.

Building 521 - Academic Core

There are five research laboratories next to the division's main office area on the fourth floor of the School of Medicine. These laboratories occupy approximately 3,300 square feet.

Building 500 - Nora Eccles Harrison Cardiovascular Research and Training Institute

The CVRTI is a Medical Center facility supporting research of 18 faculty in a 27,000 square foot cluster of buildings within a few hundred yards of University Hospital. The institute's five programs are focused on cardiac electrophysiology including molecular structure and function of ion channels, cellular electrophysiology, 3D mapping of cardiac potential fields, and cardiovascular pharmacology. Included in the institute are shared computing and electronics facilities and a new dynamic confocal imaging laboratory.

Building 533 - Eccles/Hughes Human Genetics

Five divisional faculty members are included in the Program in Human Molecular Biology and Genetics. Their laboratories in the Eccles Institute of Human Genetics building occupy about 4,800 square feet. These investigators have access to extensive shared space and facilities.

Veterans Affairs Medical Center - 500 Foothill Drive,
Building 7

The Cardiology Division operates 1,500 square feet of laboratory space where studies of arrhythmias and cellular electrophysiology are performed.

LDS Hospital - 8th Avenue & C Street

The cardiology division at LDS Hospital occupies 5,000 square feet of space in the Department of Medicine and Division of Cardiology on the seventh floor of LDS Hospital. Research space includes a 150-square-foot tissue typing laboratory and two 30-square-foot patient exam for research subjects.
